Sometimes, we may need to make a change directly to one of your site’s files – like for adding code or adjusting user permissions. For any task where you must edit, transfer, or add to your Website/WordPress files, File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is required; but what is FTP?
FTP enables you to connect directly to the server that hosts your website. You can then modify, add, and remove information and code directly. The applications of FTP are many, and it even simplifies some of your most common tasks.
FTP Access is typically provided by your hosting company. This information would be present via your Hosting Control Panel or provided to you when you signed up for hosting.
In some instances, if your website was built by another company and they host the website for you, this information may not be provided but would mean you would need to get in touch with your current hosting company for this information.
We would typically need to be sent the following information:
Server Address: i.e. ftp.domainname.com
Username: i.e. yourdomain.com
Password: i.e. password1234
If you are unable to find this information, but have access to your Hosting Control Panel, you can send us Control Panel access and we’ll be able to create an FTP account from within here.
